Sugar Land Texas Real Estate

Aptly named Sugar Land Texas was founded as a sugar plantation in the mid-1800's. Shortly after the turn of the century, the Imperial Sugar Company set up headquarters and established its main refinery there, simultaneously developing housing for its workers.

Sugar Land has come a long way from a “company town” to one of the fastest growing suburbs in the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown Metropolitan Area. Home of the nation's largest number of master-planned communities, Sugarland is continuing to attract young professionals and Fortune 500 companies to its environs.

Sugar Land Texas Real EstateA wide variety of housing options, formal landscaping, a golf course and country club, extensive green belts, lake front and estate properties, the proximity to Houston and extensive employment opportunities within the city itself are ample reasons for Sugar Land's attraction and continued growth.

No longer an agriculturally based “blue collar” town, Sugar Land is home to numerous regional and international engineering, construction technology, electronics and communication corporations, as well as companies engaged in oil and gas exploration.

Considered one of the “most livable” cities in the country, Sugar Land offers its citizens – now approaching 76,000 – a high quality of life. Opportunities available for working close to home, the year-round recreational activities, numerous upscale restaurants, art galleries and boutiques continue to attract new residents.

Sugar Land Real EstateThe southern and southeastern parts of the city house the majority of Sugar Land's population, and consist of all master-planned communities and the center of the largest economic and entertainment activities. However, a considerable number of master-planned communities are being developed within other parts of the city as well.

Considering the area's overall affluence, home prices are surprisingly modest when compared to similarly upscale areas around the west and southwest United States with single family residences averaging from just under $200,000 to slightly over $300,000.

As an example:

  • Single family 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 2,657 square feet, 2 car detached garage with a formal dining room, family room, breakfast bar in kitchen, fireplace in living room and in master bedroom and a fenced yard…..asking price $210,000
  • Single family 4 bedroom, 3 bath, 3,275 square feet on oversized greenbelt cul-de-sac lot with formal dining room, french doors, den, island kitchen, patio, 3 car garage, covered walkway, wrought iron fence…..asking price $355,000
  • Single family 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 2,800 square feet, fireplace in living room and in master bedroom, island kitchen, new dishwasher, granite counter tops, 3 car garage…..asking price $275,000

In addition to reasonable housing costs, Sugar Land's economy is gaining jobs at a faster rate than the national average.

Adding still another plus for living in this area are six universities:

  • Houston Baptist
  • Rice
  • St. Thomas
  • Texas Southern
  • University of Houston
  • Houston Community College

All are located between ten and twenty-one miles from Sugar Land.
